From captured data to a production-ready asset
Volustor is a scan data management platform for film, TV and VFX teams. A 3D scan is rarely a single file: it may include thousands of photographs, LiDAR data, calibration files, point clouds, meshes, textures and multiple processed versions.
Volustor brings all of that material together into one managed asset record.
One record for everything a scan actually is
Volustor gives teams a clear view of what has been captured, whether it is usable, who can access it and what can be done with it next.
The result is a more reliable path from capture to production, without losing the original data or its future value.
Get scan data in, and keep the original
Everything starts with a dependable record of what was actually delivered, and a permanent master that later work can always return to.
Managed Scan Ingest
Bring complex capture data into one structured workflow
Volustor provides a consistent way to receive and organise photogrammetry, LiDAR, photographic capture, calibration data and existing 3D assets.
As files arrive, teams can check, identify and associate them with the correct project, location, subject or capture session. Instead of relying on manually named folders and disconnected storage locations, teams begin with a clear and traceable record of every delivery.
This creates a dependable foundation for everything that follows.
Raw Data Preservation
Keep the original capture as the permanent master
Processed meshes and textures or 3DGS renders are useful production outputs, but they are not the complete scan.
Volustor preserves the original source photography, LiDAR, calibration data and other capture inputs alongside every derivative. Because of that, teams can return to, reprocess or improve the asset later, rather than staying limited by the tools and requirements of the original production.
The work done during capture continues to retain value long after the first delivery.
Voluscan Mobile Capture
Turn your iPhone into a connected capture device
VoluScan makes it easier to capture 3D data directly into the Volustor workflow, without depending on disconnected third-party scanning applications.
Using an iPhone or compatible mobile device, teams can capture subjects, objects and environments through a guided process designed to improve consistency and make scanning easier for both specialist and non-specialist users.
Teams can add project information, asset names, locations, categories and other important details at the point of capture. As a result, the data connects directly to the appropriate Volustor account and project instead of needing identification and reorganisation later.
This means each asset arrives with context already attached, creating a continuous and traceable path from the person performing the scan to the teams reviewing and using it.

Know what scan data you have, and whether it is usable
Scan data management only works when teams can see what they hold: checks, previews and enrichment turn opaque captures into something a production team can assess, search and act on.

Automated Quality Assurance
Understand whether a scan is ready before production depends on it
Scan problems are often discovered too late, once the subject, location or capture team is no longer available.
Volustor helps identify potential issues such as incomplete coverage, missing files, inconsistent exposure, poor focus, calibration problems or gaps in metadata. These checks give teams an earlier indication of whether the captured data is complete and suitable for its intended use.
When intervention is required, it can happen while there is still time to act.
Rapid Secure Visual Previews
See and review scan data without waiting for final processing
Raw capture data can be difficult to review or understand without specialist software or a lengthy processing stage.
Volustor can create lightweight 3D visual representations such as Gaussian splats, point clouds, or proxy meshes. These allow production teams, supervisors and clients to inspect an asset through the browser before a final production render exists.
Teams can quickly confirm what they captured, assess its general quality and decide what should happen next.
AI-Assisted Enrichment
Add useful context to every asset
A scan becomes much more useful when people can understand what it contains without opening every file manually.
Volustor can analyse and enrich assets with descriptions, categories, keywords and production-relevant metadata. This may include information about the subject, environment, materials, capture method, location or visible features.
The aim is not simply to store more metadata. Instead, it is to make large collections easier to navigate, understand and reuse.
Search and Discovery
Find the right asset without searching through folders
As a scan library grows, conventional filenames and folder structures quickly become difficult to manage.
Volustor allows teams to search across projects using names, descriptions, tags, production information, capture metadata and the contents of the assets themselves. For example, a user might search for a particular character, prop, location, material or type of environment and discover relevant scans across multiple productions.
Previously hidden or forgotten data becomes visible and useful again.
Know where an asset came from, and who may use it
Scan data management also means provenance: version history, custody events, rights and access all live with the asset rather than in emails, spreadsheets and production notes.
Connected Asset Records
Keep every version and file connected to its source
A single capture may eventually produce multiple meshes, textures, splats, previews, exports and production-specific derivatives.
In contrast, Volustor keeps these outputs linked to the original scan and to one another. Teams can understand which files belong together, which version is current, how an output was created and where the original source data can be found.
This replaces a collection of disconnected files with a coherent asset history.
Chain of Custody and Provenance
Know where an asset came from and what has happened to it
For valuable or sensitive scan data, it is important to maintain a reliable record of its journey.
Volustor can track when an asset was captured, uploaded, processed, accessed, reviewed, exported or delivered. As a result, teams get a clearer chain of custody and can understand the origin and history of every version.
In other words, provenance becomes part of the asset itself, rather than information scattered across emails, spreadsheets and production notes.

Rights, Consent and Permissions
Keep usage conditions connected to the data
A technically usable scan is not always legally or ethically available for every purpose.
Instead, Volustor associates consent information, ownership details, usage restrictions, expiry dates and access permissions directly with the relevant asset. Teams can see not only what data exists, but also how it may be used and who is authorised to use it.
This becomes increasingly important as scans are reused across productions, platforms and AI-enabled workflows.

Secure Review and Collaboration
Let the right people review assets without distributing the originals
Production teams often need to share scan data with clients, supervisors, vendors and internal departments. Sending unrestricted copies creates unnecessary security and version-control risks.
Volustor, however, provides controlled access to previews, metadata and relevant asset versions. Approved users can inspect, review, annotate or approve material while access remains managed and visible.
Collaboration becomes easier without giving up control of the underlying data.
Turn it into what production needs, on your terms
Process in Volustor, process it yourself, or send it to a vendor. Volustor stays the system of record in every case, and the original capture stays preserved as the master.
Advanced Processing Workflows
Turn raw capture data into production-ready assets
Different scans require different kinds of processing. One asset may need a rapid Gaussian-splat preview, while another may require a high-quality mesh, detailed textures, glossiness maps, specialist cleanup or other production-ready derivatives.
Volustor helps teams manage these workflows from the original capture through to the finished output. Processing tasks, asset versions and resulting derivatives remain connected to the same source record, making it easier to understand what exists, how it was produced and which version to use.
Equally, teams can use their own tools and infrastructure, work with approved vendors or request advanced processing through Volustor. Whether processing an entire scan or extracting a specific object or section, the workflow remains traceable and the original capture data remains preserved as the master asset.
Integrations and Delivery
Fit Volustor into the systems your team already uses
Studios and organisations may already have established storage, production tracking, asset management and delivery systems.
Volustor can connect with these environments through APIs, structured exports and configurable workflows. Asset records, metadata, previews and completed outputs can move into the tools where production teams already work.
Volustor adds a dedicated management layer for scan data without requiring the rest of the pipeline to be replaced.
Reprocessing and Long-Term Reuse
Prepare today's scans for tomorrow's possibilities
The most valuable future use of a scan may not be known at the moment it is captured.
By retaining the original observations, metadata, rights information and processing history, Volustor makes it possible to return to an asset as tools and production requirements evolve. Data originally captured for visual effects might later support virtual production, digital twins, immersive experiences, machine learning or entirely new forms of spatial media.
As a result, a scan stops being a disposable production output and becomes a long-term digital asset.
